Project Description

The overall aim of the training course is aimed to develop the youth workers, youth leaders’ skills and competences to support young women’s access to human rights through implementing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women – CEDAW; European Convention on Human Rights and Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence in their local realities and international level. Practicing non-formal learning methods to deal with gender stereotyping, recognising abusive relationship, fighting against sexist hate speech as part of gender-based violence. Establishing partnership among youth organisations to fight against sexist hate speech online and in local level.
Learning objectives of the training course are:
- To understand the socially constructed nature of gender roles and the mechanisms and agents of gender socialisation;
- To learn how to recognise society’s differing expectations towards girls and boys, and young men and young women;
- To explore how gender norms affect people’s human rights;
- To understand the meaning of gender-based violence and be able to recognise different types of gender-based violence;
- To discuss the role of youth work in helping to prevent violence in intimate relationships;
- To identify dilemmas related to sex, sexuality and violence that young people face as they enter the adult world;
- To learn about sexual and reproductive rights within the human rights framework;
- To learn to recognise sexist hate speech and the consequences it has on the young people targeted;
- To identify different ways of responding to sexist hate speech online and develop an online action against sexist hate speech based on the needs of

Activities

We apply for” Gender ON”- training course on dealing with gender stereotyping and gender based violence through local and online youth work activities which will be held at 16 - 22, October, 2022.
Methodology of the project is based on an intercultural approach and non-formal education. We have foreseen a dedicated workshop (theory and practice) on non-formal education to make them understand how this tool can be used and applied in their youth work reality. General methodology will reflect different learning styles/needs. Methodology that we will use will lead to equal and active participation of all participants. We will aim to create a safe environment for learning and the flow and counter flow from the individual needs to the group needs to the topic to the individual and so on. To increase active participation of youth workers during the planned activities will be used different exercises combination of individual and team work, learner-centred ways, theoretical inputs and exercises. We will employ a variety of different tools: ice-breakers, name games, short activities allowing participants to learn each other’s names, team-building activities, energizers, small group work, large group work, simulation activities and role plays, media workshops (new media, social media, multimedia), dance workshops, intercultural activities, open-space activities, peer review, self-evaluation.

- The Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse, also known as the Lanzarote Convention
- The Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings
- Recommendation CM/Rec(2010)5 of the Committee of Ministers to member states on measures to combat discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity
- The Charter on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education (2010)
- The Enter! Recommendation (2015) on Access of Young People from Disadvantaged Neighbourhoods to Social Rights
- The Recommendation on Young People’s Access to Rights (2016)
- The Recommendation on Supporting Young Refugees in Transition to Adulthood (2019)
Practical background of the training:
- Practicing youth work methods on gender stereotyping, and recognising and raising awareness on gender-based violence with, for and by young people in general and young people with fewer opportunities in particular.
- Preparing, implementing and evaluating mini online and local campaigns on combating online sexist hate speech and raising awareness on gender-based violence.
- Inventing youth exchanges and local youth activities on promoting gender equality and raising awareness on gender-based violence with, for and by young people according to the requirements of Erasmus+ programme and European Youth Foundation.

The project targets 44 youth workers above 18 years old and there will be not upper age limit. Youth workers who can benefit more from this project and above all can act as real multipliers of the knowledge and competences they will gain.
