Youth Against Conflict

Programme: Erasmus+

Key Action: Learning Mobility of Individuals

Action Type: Mobility of youth workers

Project number: 2021-2-DE04-KA153-YOU-000038540

Duration: 2022 - 2023

Project Description

Our project is aimed at developing and improving the conflict management competences with special focus on emotional intelligence and communication of youth workers in order to become able to prepare, run and evaluate high quality youth work activities targeting young people with different cultural background such as refugees, migrants, minorities, Roma, etc. according to the principles of conflict prevention and resolution. We live in multicultural, cross-cultural and intercultural societies. Our local communities are not homogeneous anymore thanks to the free European mobility, the open borders and markets for European citizens, and hosting refugees and migrants from other parts of the world. As youth workers, we have to deal with
- different culturality young people whose behavioural norms, values and schemes could be different than the local ones;
- young people with refugees background from an absolutely different culture, even still traumatised by their previous life experiences;
- 2nd generations of migrant kids who don’t belong to the culture of their parents, however don’t find their place in the culture of majority.
It is not all the time easy to handle intercultural challenges, to understand the communication codes of different culturality young people, to treat appropriately diverse values, norms and schemes on intercultural behaviours, to face with stereotypes and prejudices coming from young people towards each other without really knowing what they are afraid of and why they become more and more xenophobic. Feeling in our skins, we need to improve our youth work competences through conflict resolution and mediation in order to be able offering such types of youth work activities locally and European level where young people with different cultural background can cooperate together and handle their cultural diversity as added value of their common activities through emotional intelligence and communication.
General objectives of the project are to improve the capacities of youth workers in the following key areas – emotional intelligence, conflict management and communication – enhancing in this way the competences that youth workers need to have in order to be able to adequately respond to the needs and interests of marginalised young people and fully support their development and active participation in the society and with that preventing their radicalism. By empowering youth workers, the project will contribute to developing the quality of activities delivered by youth organizations and quality of support systems for youth activities for preventing radicalism of marginalised young people.
Learning objectives of the training course:
- Reflecting on necessary competences of youth workers in the areas of emotional intelligence,
conflict management and communication;
- Experiencing methods and techniques to increase competences in the areas of emotional intelligence,
conflict management and communication;
- Supporting participants in mastering experienced techniques and methods and transferring
these methods and techniques to their work with young people, including young people with
fewer opportunities;
- Promoting the exchange of good practices in the area of professional development of youth workers;
- Providing space to work on development of new ideas addressing the need of professional development of youth work with support of the Erasmus + Programme.
